A landscape studio that listens to the land first.
Fern Ridge was founded on a simple idea: a yard can be beautiful and do real ecological work at the same time.
We're a team of designers, builders, and gardeners working across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area. Every project we take on starts with the site itself — its soil, its slope, the way water moves across it, and the plants and pollinators already at home there.
From there, we design landscapes that capture rainfall, build habitat, and reduce the long-term load on municipal stormwater systems — all while turning everyday backyards into places people actually want to spend time in.
Four principles guide every project.
Stewardship over scenery
Beauty matters, but a landscape that doesn't support life is just decoration. We start with ecology and design outward from there.
The site teaches us
Every property has its own hydrology, microclimate, and history. We listen before we plan.
Native, where it makes sense
Native species are the foundation — they're hardy, they support local fauna, and they don't need life support to thrive.
Built to last
Stone walls that don't lean, decks that don't sag, gardens that mature instead of decline. Quality compounds over decades.
Rooted in the GTHA.
We work primarily across Burlington, Oakville, Hamilton, Mississauga, and the surrounding watersheds. If you're near, get in touch — if you're just outside, ask anyway.
